100ltr Fat Trap Weatherproof
If you have a commercial kitchen with up to three sink bowls and a commercial dishwasher, it’s important that you do not undersize your grease trap. Installing a small grease trap might seem okay, but this can cause big problems if more water enters the trap than is designed. This can result in both backing up and greatly reduced efficacy of your grease trap’s primary function: FOG retention.
Commercial Grease Traps
It is important when sizing your commercial grease trap that is it large enough to allow waste water to remain in the trap for 30 minutes. This allows natural FOG separation to occur and is important to prevent blockages. In addition, a grease trap that is too small can quickly back up in to your sink. Not only will your grease trap become much less efficient, your drainage will greatly reduce.
It is therefore very important to consider what appliances you and flow rates of those items producing wastewater, when correctly sizing your grease trap. As a business owner or somebody responsible for smooth running of a commercial kitchen, the very last thing you want is to have service interrupted by blockages and backing up through not sizing a grease trap correctly!
Large Outdoor Grease Trap
Many water providers such as Severn Trent Water who supply to Birmingham (and the surrounding Midlands area) and Thames Water who supply many parts of London, are now advising their customer to install a minimum size 100 litre grease traps. This is to ensure they are not overloaded with the volume of water and will cope with a large catering sink which potentially will release both bowls at the same time.
Underground & Large Outdoor Grease Trap Installation
As suppliers of quality stainless steel kitchen products and commercial grease traps, we are proud to various sizes of gravity-fed, passive grease traps which are designed for under sink installation. In addition to our stainless steel range, we also now offer high quality outdoor grease traps which can be placed above ground or underground.
Specifically created to withstand the elements our epoxy coated outdoor grease traps offer flexibility of installation where an under sink installation is otherwise not achievable. These passive grease traps are designed for all food service establishments and Cater Kitchen are actively helping restaurants up and down the UK gain control of their wastewater and FOG management.
Passive Grease Trap
A passive, or gravity-fed grease trap is possible the most cost effective option when considering grease management. Due to their simplistic design, no power supply is required or expensive filter replacements. The simple action of water flowing via a downward feed in to the trap is sufficient. Once in the trap, the continual flow of water in conjunction with directional baffles inside the trap aide the cooling of the water and thus the grease separation process.
The result is an effective grease trap which collects unwanted FOG’s and captures them safely inside the main chamber where it awaits removal. This is by far the least expensive way to manage your waste FOG’s and once purchased, can begin immediately reducing your harmful FOG’s which may enter the public sewer system.
Installation Advice
You should check your trap routinely and periodically then empty accordingly. Particularly in the days and weeks following installation. It is recommended to consider a local grease trap cleaning contractor who can carry this out for you. Like under sink grease traps, outdoor and underground grease traps do not have a syphon valve with which to drain off surface FOG’s or empty the collection chamber completely.
Therefore, it is recommended to employ a contractor who has dedicated suction hoses. Whether you opt for a drainage contractor or decide to clean the grease trap yourself as part of your regular maintenance regime, always remember to dispose of in accordance with your local authority regulations and keep documented evidence.
